2 out of 5 stars Not for Wireless experts, poorly written   November 27, 2007
A. KHAN (New York, NY)
Well this book is good for IT starters. Engineers would be better off
to IEEE Design specs or Wi-Fi docs. Poorly written and cheaply published. If you are buying to learn about 802.11n then don't even think about this book. You wont even get a taste of 11n from this book.

1 out of 5 stars Many typos to be a reference book   May 28, 2007
Willie Niou
There are many typos in the book to be useful as a reference book.
Some figures are of such low quality that it is hard to imagine the book publisher is IEEE.
Along with such a high price, this book is not a recommended purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Good overview and excellent reference text   May 22, 2007
Mike K. (Long Island, NY)
I purchased this book because I needed to very quickly learn about 802.11 for my job. I found this text to be a good source of information and an excellent general reference to have in my library.

This is a book that is intended for engineers and technical experts or those that aspire to be. It is not a basic text for "IT types". Although, I don't believe there are any books on the market right now that do a better overall job than this one, this text is still somewhat lacking in giving a good overall picture of how an 802.11 system actually operates. The book does a great job in covering the low-level details of the standard, however, it would be greatly improved by more examples and diagrams that illustrate system operation.

In spite of its few shortcomings, I highly recommend this book for engineers who need to shore up their knowledge of 802.11 and its many variations.

5 out of 5 stars My Review   February 18, 2007
Vikram Natarajan (sunnyvale, ca, usa)
This book is must have for wi-fi professionals. It describes the protocol in detail and is a good reference to have.

5 out of 5 stars Wireless Bible   September 8, 2006
David Coleman
I am an author of a book about the CWNA(Certified Wireless Networking Administration) certification exam. I recommend to everyone that they buy this book because I consider it the Wi-Fi Bible. The handbook is a MUST have if you want to get a basic understanding of the details of the PHY and MAC layers of the 802.11 standard.

This book is NOT a prep guide for exams but rather is a great 802.11 wireless reference book. That being said, this book is an excellent study resource for all the CWNP certifications.

I give this book SIX STARS
