Customer Reviews: Great Quick Reference Book May 31, 2010 Bore Duo (backofyourhead, WA) I wanted a quick reference guide that was complete enough to actually program routers and switches ... not theory. 90% of the time I have a question, I can get it answered from this book in less than a minute. So, five stars from me.
No guide will be perfect for everyone. This is not a textbook and not for learning. Great lightweight reference and for review of a topic. Good style and clean layout, but not exciting. The Index in the back of the book WORKS.
Excellent reference guide January 8, 2009 Danny (Phoenix, AZ) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is book is a great book to reference to when you need assistance with CLI commands. It has tremendously helped at work and also while at school. I definitely recommend this book.
Todd Lammle's IOS Commands March 10, 2008 Ross Howard (San Diego, Ca) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Lammle's stated objective is to help the reader prepare for and pass the difficult CCNA exam. This book expands a bit on that objective. He states in the introduction that this is supplementary material. It's written to assist the student in understanding the line of thought behind the technology.
I found that quite useful. The CCNA is a rigorous exam; those who pass it have a pretty good understanding of the concepts and protocols. But "real world" practice is a trickier thing, especially NAT, and Lammle's book concisely tackles those issues of keeping a network running. He clearly discusses the "why". I'm keeping the book on my desk as a reference work beyond just exam prep. It's money well-spent.
