Product Description

Hawking Technology's HWUG1, 2.4Ghz Wireless-G USB 2.0 Network Adapter with removable antenna, packs the latest wireless technology into a compact unit, capable of transferring data at speeds up to 54Mbps and 108Mbps, capable when paired with the Hawking HWRGM1A Mimo Router. The external dipole antenna can easily be removed and upgraded to a Hawking Hi-Gain Antenna for extended wireless range.

For piece-of-mind wireless security, the HWUG1 supports 64/128-bit WEP data encryption that protects your wireless network from eavesdropping. It also supports the WPA and WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access) security standards that combines IEEE 802.1x and TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol) technologies. Client users are required to authorize before accessing to APs or AP Routers, and the data transmitted in the network is encrypted/decrypted by a dynamically changed secret key.

I live in Canada. Even though, amazon.con told me that I would receive my parcel the next week, I have been able to play with it a couple of days after my order. The USB adapter works great on my mac and can even inject packets which is really cool!

This wireless card works great. I haven't had any problems w/ it. Works w/ Linux and Windows 7

1 out of 5 stars Terrible. Simply Terrible. A huge waste of my time.   June 10, 2010

The Hawking Wireless USB adapter is one of the worst pieces of hardware I have ever had the misfortune of using. Considering I have been in the computer field for almost 20 years, that is no small feat.

Each time it gets disconnected, upon reconnection it installs as a new Wireless adapter. I think it had gotten up to Wireless Adapter 8 on my PC before I decided to invest in a wireless bridge instead of this piece of junk. I didn't care that it made a new connection number. I cared that every time, I had to RE-ENTER all the network and encryption information, even if I only pulled the card for a few seconds and re-inserted it back into the same slot.

It also would not stay locked on the correct network. It kept locking on to another network in my house with lower signal, even when I did not enter the network key for that network, it would incorrectly try to connect to that network and ignore the preferred network that also had a stronger signal.

About the longest I could get it to work without jumping to the other network or just simply freezing or not working was about 10 or 15 minutes. This continued to happen even after I opened my networks up entireley, removing the security.

After hours messing about with this thing, I pulled it and put it in a desk drawer, and went out and bought a wireless bridge and haven't had to worry about networking issues again, and am even able to secure my networks once more.

If you have a lot of time on your hands, love frustration and re-entering network security keys, this is the device for you. If you would prefer a real hobby rather than making a lousy usb wireless adapter work for more than 10 minutes, look elsewhere.

4 out of 5 stars Sounds good for using in my MAC.   May 22, 2010
