5 out of 5 stars Good product easy to setup   September 3, 2010

Product is easy to setup took only a few minutes. Used same security password as my other router so no adjustments to my devices was required. Multiple bands very useful.

5 out of 5 stars Worked great out of the box and beats the g wireless the phone company was going to provide.   September 2, 2010

I live out in the woods and until recently had only satellite internet, Was delighted when DSL became available. Qwest only provides g wireless routers so this N version makes a big difference. Very pleased overall.

1 out of 5 stars A Big Thumbs Down   August 30, 2010

Why no Zero Stars??

A router should be easy. Plug it in, set it up, Done. Not here!!! Plug it in, set it up, Oops, it drops the dsl - Restart. Plug it in, set it up, oops the wireless is down again - Restart. Plug it in, set it up, Why can only 4 devices connect wirelessly, hmmmm, Oh well wireless is down again - Restart. Plug it in, set it up, now the kindle won't connect - Restart. Wireless down again?? Unplug - Return

Notice there are more 1 star reviews than 5 star reviews? That says something

1 out of 5 stars Poor customer service and misleading warranty   August 30, 2010

If you are lucky to get a working stable version of this DSL router it is great. The connection is rock solid and the preformance is good even with multiple wireless & ethernet connections and mixed wireless speeds. Unfortunately the firmware updates are buggy and customer support/warranty support is below poor. After installing the latest firmware updates within the first three months of purchase the router started losing the DSL connection. If I shut it off so the router cooled down it would connect but eventually lose it again in the next few days. Customer support runs through a fixed list of steps which includes installing the latest firmware. If Customer Support can get it back up an running they request you call them back after several days of observation. However this guidance ties into Netgear's convoluted warranty policy. You have 90 days customer support and one year of hardware coverage. The catch is to get the hardware warranty honoured you must also have customer support coverage. If your router stops working past 90 days (even if it is entirely dead according to the CS manager) they will not allow a refurbished unit exchange unless you sign-up for additional customer support coverage for 70$. For practical purposes this means you only have a 90 day warranty and customer support will try and do whatever it takes to delay any exchanges so it occurs after the 90 days. 70$ for customer support to get a refurbished product that originally cost around 100 - 140$ is absurd. After significant dicussion with a not very helpful support manager I was offered a 35$ support option for 45 minutes with the option to extend it for 45 minutes also for 35$, with no promise that they would agree to issue an exchange authorization - again a pointless option. As much for the faulty hardware and the terrible customer support/warranty policy I cannot recommend this or any Netgear product.

I was able to figure out a workaround to get the router working. I installed the original firmware that was first issued. It has been about 3 weeks and so far still a solid connection. Unfortunately that firmware does not provide support for the USB port so the promised functionality is not there but at least it works for now. Note that this is not a fix Netgear's poor customer support group suggested during and after the first 90 days - I had to figure this out by trial and error.

3 out of 5 stars Version 1 was shipped although version 2 already exists   August 28, 2010
Sassan Karai (Charlotte, NC USA)
I had hoped to receive the latest version of the device - after having researched the product website but version 1 shipped. The firmware was outdated as well, it was still running version 1.1.00.32 instead of the newer May 2010 version 1.1.00.41. The device is made in China and more expensive than others which may explain its seemingly long shelf life.
