Was slow and stopped working after 3 months September 2, 2010 Joe Trelin (Seattle, WA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought this to replace an old D-Link router, assuming a new Cisco would be better. I was wrong. Set-up was fairly easy, but that was about it. the router was slower than the d-link and after 3 months stopped working. would lose its signal and the ethernet connections wouldn't work.
Beware of the WRT400N August 27, 2010 justice4all 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Beware of the WRT400N
At first it was a very smooth ride but after 7 months, I began having connection problem. It was having IP conflicts and then it when out. I purchase this linksys because of cisco reputation and product quality, but on this baby someone drop the ball. I paid almost $200 with taxes and I was expecting this to last for a while. My previous router which was made by microsoft was able to provide me with all the functionalities as expected for over 6 years. The only reason that I wanted to to retired the unit was because I wanted an upgrade with the newer routers and better range. But after expending over 179.99 for the units which didnt even give me 1/3 of my monies worth, i think its a risk you do not want to take if your warranty goes out. Its sad when I look back and said wait a minute, that microsoft router was 69.99 and last over 6 year with no problem, and as a matter of fact i even gave it to a friend to continue using it. So stay away from this particular model. I think cisco knows it and thats why they have discontinue the production of it according to one of its associates considering that this is a newer model.
Intentionally limited capabilities August 25, 2010 Aki Korhonen (PST, USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have used Linksys products for many years, including this router that I had set up as a router and access point in my house. It performs well for its basic task: wireless connectivity. It is just fine as a router (though I no longer use it as such, see below.)
Like most products in its category, there are only so many things that need attention during initial setup. Linksys is just as easy (or difficult) to set up as any competing device. Something that bothered me slightly is that virtually any change to configuration requires a reboot, whereas some other similar devices (Trendnet comes to mind from recent experience) skip the reboot for parameters that don't require it.
My biggest issue with this device is an intentional limitation to the IP address range that it can serve. Due to what one might call an overly complex home network (granted, it's a big house), I needed to grow beyond the 255.255.255.0 network mask.
However, to my surprise the device will not accept a broader mask. In fact, after some research it became quite clear that this was an intentional choice by Cisco, as Linksys/Cisco support forums had company employees stating that this was a choice, not an oversight. Speculation on the same forum was that Cisco wanted to avoid competition from "low end" Linksys routers for its commercial products, as apparently all Linksys products share the same limitation.
I replaced the Linksys router with a Trendnet one that does not have the same limitation. Interestingly, for $40 less the Trendnet offered the same performance as this Linksys product. I continue to use the Linksys WRT400N as an access point, and have not noticed functional differences when connecting to either the Trendnet and Linksys. The Trendnet appears to offer its highest speed at slighly longer range, but since I moved the router slightly as part of the swap, the comparison might not be a fair one.
This router is Poop! August 25, 2010 Jane Doe (Houston) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Poop I tell you!
Received this and tried to get it to work over and over and over. It is a great "router" but a terrible "Wireless router"
I bought a Trendnet wireless router. I didn't even have to install the driver disc on my computer. My new laptop found it right away and I was "surfing the internet superhighway" in no time.
Sorry linksys, go back to the blackboard, actually go back to the crayon and restaurant's children's placemat.
PEACE!!
Much easier to set-up than I had expected August 17, 2010 Mrs Penston 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this router reluctantly. I had a perfectly good Linksys WRT54G which worked with all of the numerous wireless devices in our house - with one notable exception. For some reason, the iPad and the WRT54G just did not get along. Frantic, we scoured the Internet for all kinds of solution, but nothing worked. Buying this router as a replacement made me very nervous. Not only may it not work with the iPad (in the same random manner of out WRT54G), but if things go wrong, the two laptops, 4 desktops, 2 gaming consoles and 1 handheld that were working beautifully may also crash and burn. This little box proved that it was better than that! Following a slight hiccup with the installation (user error), it worked right out of the box, and when I used the same security settings that I had for the WRT54G, I did not need to do ANYTHING to the devices. They saw the new router as soon as it was configured. Now if I get the reliability that I had with the WRT54G, I will be a happy camper!!
