Product Description The Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router is really four devices in one box. First, there's the dual-band Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together at up to gigabit speeds. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.

too bad Linksys got bought by Cisco, now Linksys is unreliable July 29, 2010 thequickad This is my 3rd Linksys WRT610N, all would overheat and then became unreliable. Not the Linksys reliability I was used to back in the pre-Cisco days. Right now, my WRT610N's wireless just died for no reason whatsoever, it was working 5-min ago. I can still use the wired gigabit ports but no wireless and the router cannot accept connection to view the config page, resetting and powering on/off did nothing.
After many years of being Linksys customer, I am giving up and going with D-Link.
This product is unreliable, do not buy it.
Very disappointing... July 26, 2010 sduel (Northborough, MA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've always had Linksys networking equipment and never had any complaints. However, this router has been a major disappointing. I've been running it for 7 months now and besides the looks there's not much positive I can say. I'm not a network engineer but as a software developer I know enough to get by. Here is my experience:
1. 5mhz Range (N-only) at 20 ft away I get about 2 bars. So unless you plan on sitting next to the beauty, it's useless.
2. 2.4mhz Range (N-only) is acceptable but not nearly as good as my old WRT54GL that is still on the network.
3. Connections drop constantly. I'm talking about every 3-5 minutes when my son is on XBOX Live. Really takes the fun out of browsing. Takes about 2-3 minutes to reconnect after each drop. Can't even backup my laptop to the server over the wireless connection because of the instability.
4. USB Hard drive feature of the router is painfully slow. Almost an hour to transfer 7GB. Unacceptable and almost sad.
5. Under heavy load, the device turns into a space heater which is probably the source of the connection problems. Read some CISCO support comment that suggest to try to cool the device down with an external fan and see if it makes a difference. I thought to myself, send me the cooling fan CISCO and I'll give a try.
So, for $170 I got worse range and no improvement in performance as I'd expected from a G to N upgrade. On the flip side, as long as my son keeps playing XBOX Live, I can turn the heat down in my office.
I suppose I will get the 'Cooler Master Notepal U2 Notebook Cooler' for $20 and give it try. I'll update the review with the results.
Router slows down and requires reboot July 19, 2010 Christopher M 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Overall, the performance of the WRT610N router is good. I do have one major problem with it though. The router will slow down internet traffic from my broadband provider speed of 18Mb/s to about 1Mb/s after about a day.
I have been using [...] to test the speed of the connection and confirmed the slow rate from multiple computers. I then reboot the router and do nothing else to the network. I then test the speed once again and it is back up to full bandwidth.
A search on the internet has turned up others with the exact same problem. None of their solutions have helped. If anyone has seen a similar issue and resolved it, I would love to hear it.
I have resorted to keeping a tab on my browser open that is connected to the router so I can reboot whenever I notice that things are slowing down. I have two VOIP lines on my network, so I have to bare it if I am on a call when I notice the problem.
Jim June 9, 2010 Jim this product was installed without a hitch, everything went easy. followed the install wizzard and had both 2.4 and 5.8 ghz up and running in 20 min. been working now for a couple of weeks now without any problems. I was glad I upgraded, had a netgear model before, and it was locking up on me. we have 3 computers runing of this one and it works great. diffently worth the money!
Be sure to download all software June 2, 2010 geraldo (pa) Great router but be sure to download all software.
I am able to run a desktop and two wireless laptops from the router. Setup was easy but I was in a hurry and I did not download all software on the CD.
Everything worked fine for a few days until I discovered that I could not check the Powerball lottery numbers. Parental control blocked the Powerball site - labeling it Gambling. I could not figure out how to turn off the Parental Control. Needless to say, I was upset and ready to send the router back to Amazon.
Instead, I put the CD back into the computer and this time, downloaded everything. Now I was able control the Parental Control and turn it off.
I really like the router. It's a good one.
