The NETGEAR RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N USB Adapter:
  • Lets your PC notebook connect to Wireless N networks and hotspots.
  • Is backwards compatibile with Wireless-G networks and devices.
  • Operates on both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz bands to minimize interference.
  • Is extremely portable--weighs less than one ounce.

This highly portable adapter lets you connect to Wireless-N networks for long range and high speeds. View larger.
Less Interference, Increased Range and Superior Performance
When you use the RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N USB Adapter to connect to a Wireless-N network, you can take advantage of the new technology's outstanding range and performance. Utilizing the latest dual band Wireless-N technology, when used with Wireless-N networks, can deliver more than 10 times the range and offer a throughput speed of up to 15 times greater than existing Wireless-G networks.

Another notable advantage of dual band Wireless-N is that it works with up to 23 channels that operate on the 5GHz band. Wireless-G networks, on the other hand, operate on the 2.4-GHz band with only 3 channels, which is also home to some cordless phones, microwaves, and other devices that can cause interference. 5GHz Wireless-N avoids the interference that can interrupt Wireless-G networks, giving you greater reliability and performance. The RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N USB Adapter turns your computer into a new dual band Wireless-N device, letting you connect securely to all new Wireless-N gateways, routers and access points. While the adapter is backwards compatible with any Wireless-G network or hot spot, its performance is optimized for use with the RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router (WNDR3300), HD/Gaming 5 GHz Wireless-N Networking Kit (WNHDE111/WNHDEB111), RangeMax Next Wireless-N Routers (WNR834B, WNR854T Gigabit version).

USB Connectivity for Immediate Performance
Offering better speed and range than other USB Wireless-N adapters, the RangeMax Wireless-N Dual Band Adapter--when used to connect to a Wireless-N network--lets you wirelessly surf, email, stream HD video, on-line game, make Internet phone calls--at the same time!

Depending on your Internet connection, the adapter can provide you with enough bandwidth to support quick music downloads, file sharing and HD multimedia applications.

This convenient and highly portable adapter, which weighs less than an ounce and is about the size of a lighter, is designed for your Windows XP or Vista notebook or desktop PC and simply plugs into any USB port.

What's in the Box
RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N USB Adapter (WNDA3100), installation guide, resource CD, and warranty/support information card.

The adapter is portable and easy to install, making it easy to use with all your computers.

4 out of 5 stars Finicky Installation & Setup but Works Really Good wnda3100 v1   September 1, 2010
Amazonian (Around the World)
This is for the V1 WNDA3100. There is a V2 that is getting much better reviews. The V1 only has a light, no button. I have a bunch of these on different machines and the installations have gone from very easy to really a pain; but in the end I have gotten them all to work. Now one thing I noticed recently... I upgraded my DLINK DIR-655 router from FW 1.21 to FW 1.34NA and when I did, my laptop that uses the WNDA3100 would lose internet and connectivity --- but would show up as being connected in the icon in the system tray, very odd. Anyway, all of my other G-Wireless devices were working fine, so the problem had to be in the client with the WNDA3100. What I did to solve the problem is I went into the NETGEAR CLIENT MANAGER and there is an Advanced Settings Button under the SSID Name. I selected that and changed the Preamble setting from Auto to Long. I also changed the WIRELESS MODE setting to: UP TO 300 mbs (2.4 GHz only). I've now been up for 15 hours vs. about 45 minutes before the change. Hope this helps.

So, it works great... software installation can range from simple to super hard. Can require tweaking to get it to work. Refurbs are available cheap.

3 out of 5 stars Works great...eventually   August 21, 2010

I bought a Netgear WNDR3500L for the wireless N so I could use the faster speed to transfer files to and from a NAS box. I bought this adaptor to make use of the wireless N.

The big headache with this one is the software. Downloading the latest firmware from Netgear in May 2010 it simply failed to load on Windows XP 32bit. After hours of frustration, I found a tip on a forum that suggested using a previous version of the firmware, and now it works just fine.

I think this adaptor is great, simply let down by duff software. I'm upgrading to Windows 7 in the next few weeks, and from what I've read, I have my doubts as to whether this adapter will work.

As for speed, I was getting about 58Mbps, rather disappointing, but when I switched from a CRT to a flat panel monitor, I'm now getting a consistent 117Mbps (30 feet from router, through two walls).

If you have a bit of tech savvy, give it a go, otherwise look elsewhere.

2 out of 5 stars Not worth the money..has major flaws in connection   August 18, 2010
Larissa F. Seay (USA)
I bought this adapter (and paid $80 for it at BestBuy...which was a mistake when I saw the price on here) to hook my PC up to the wireless router in my new home. My router is not Netgear (I think it's a Motorola..it's my roommate's). At any rate, the setup was easy, just installing software and hooking the adapter into my USB port. Pretty simple, right? Well, my PC is set up about 18-20 feet from the router and gets consistently disconnected. I don't know about you, but it's a nightmare when I'm trying to download files or game online.
I paid the extra money for this adapter thinking that the "Rangemax" title would prevent any unwanted disconnections, but alas, I've been disconnected a few times already since I've been on the internet today. Thinking that the distance from the router made a difference, I tested a laptop here in my room, same distance from the router, and not a single disconnection with the built-in wireless adapter in the HP laptop. No dropped connections even after a couple hours of being online.

I understand that there may be some variation if you're not using a Netgear Router, but it says it works with other routers as well on the box. And it does. Minimally.

I would not pay full price for it, nor would I recommend it to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Version 2   June 14, 2010

Be sure you get v2.0. It has a small button. It does not show on the Amazon photo. If you get the correct adapter with current software, it works perfectly, especially with a newer Netgear router.

5 out of 5 stars Works with Panasonic Viera TVs!   June 8, 2010

Hey Panasonic Viera Owners - This thing works with both the TV and Blue Ray players. Just plug it in the USB port and it configures itself. Why? Obviously the Panasonic wireless adaptors are based on this product. Panasonic must have a condition/clause for Netgear not to advertise this because they do absolutely do not. I found this on a KB article via Google. It's $30 less than the Panasonic version and may be a better device if you have a Netgear dual band router. Anyway, I guess the old version had many bugs, but this is version 2 and works perfectly!
