3 out of 5 stars Never used   August 25, 2010
Francisco M. Navarro (Chicago, IL)
Ended up returning the item due to me going with Cable Internet rather than DSL.

1 out of 5 stars Disconnect over night   August 25, 2010
N. Tang (houston, tx United States)
the connection keep disconnect every night, turn off and turn back on to connect to internet again, try many different setting still got the same problem, do a reasearch online realize this is a common problem and there still no solution for it. D-link customer service is a joke, they couldn't help me at all after 3 hour on the phone. I give up.

1 out of 5 stars Never got it to work, and, poor support.   July 28, 2010

Would not work given the instructions, and I have some IT experience.

Called the help line and waited 25 minutes. Spoke to three people on two different occasions for a period of almost two hours. They blamed everything from my computer to the ISP to my lack of understanding. None of the people I spoke with really seemed to understand the hardware or software, they just referred to and read from scripts.

Horrible experience. Returned for refund.

4 out of 5 stars A nice upgrade for aging equipment   July 20, 2010

I purchased one of these a year ago to replace an aging Speedstream modem and Linksys router. It does a better job of holding a connection than any other modem I've owned in the last 10 years. And every couple of months or so the Linksys would just act goofy and I'd have to cycle the power to get it to behave again. I've never had to do that with this box.

It's smaller than either my old modem or router was, yet it replaces both of them. I appreciate the space savings.

I also found that on my questionable phone line, I get better performance out of this modem than I did out of older ones. Performance varies based on line conditions, but it's consistently a 100K-200K faster than my old modems could ever manage.

Now, for the bad. I wasn't very impressed with its wireless, but admittedly I've never been able to get any wireless device to work well in my house. My Linksys was a little bit better in that regard. I finally gave up and just ran Ethernet to where I wanted computers.

The device does run hot, but I keep it in my basement and that seems to help. So far, the heat hasn't affected the device's reliability.

And yes, as others have said, the unit's browser interface is primitive. But the only times I've had to access it were to set it up initially, and to check its status when I was curious about the speed I was getting. It's adequate for that, so I don't worry about that very much.

I don't regret the purchase, and recommend it without hesitation to anyone who needs to replace an old DSL modem.

4 out of 5 stars Well Worth The Investment   June 12, 2010

I have used several DSL modems. This one was easy to setup. I wish it came with more in-depth instructions. The unit does get warm, so use a small fan.
