terible piece of garbage February 9, 2010 Leonard Demopoulos (Bean-town USA) I bought this item less than a year ago and have had nothing but problems with it. AddLogix people had me on hold for what seemed forever, so I finally gave up. People do not waste your precious time and money with this product. It SUX out loud!
Do not buy this November 14, 2009 eileen krzeminski (west caldwell, nj United States) This stopped working after 3 weeks and I requested to return it and get a refund. NOPE! I could only exchange it I was told. I don't need another piece of junk. I want my money back and was told. NO.
Great way to get wifi on older iBook G3 G4 models September 25, 2009 janascally (Los Angeles, CA USA) I posted this on the apple discussions forum:
I was going to get an ethernet bridge as users here said they're much more effective, but the main issue is that it needs its own power source, so it ends up not being portable in any way, and is another external piece to power and plug in.
the wireless USB adapters seemed to be problematic, from the discussions on this forum due to lack of software compatibility for Macs.
I finally tried the USB 2.0 Wireless Adapter by Addlogix-- WLAN IEEE802.11b/g Adapter
[...]
Now even though the box and the Mac salesman said it was designed for USB 2.0, i have successfully been using it on my g3 ibook, with USB 1.0. The software includes USB Wireless Utility which is relatively easy to access on unencrypted networks.
Belkin also makes a Mac supported adapter that work with both USB 1.0 and of course 2.0. but you have to make SURE you get the right version (they have 4) which will run with Mac OSX. It's a bit more confusing...
My Addlogix was $40 at the store (in 2007) it may be cheaper online but you have to deal with high shipping costs and more costs if you need to return. I felt it much safer to buy from a store in case this wouldn't work.
*adding: I've been using this for 2 years. It still works. It was a bit difficult to get it to always work on my own home network, but I think that was because I had wireless router difficulties. You have to get really familar with your Apple Network preferences. in Network ports configurations> the Adaptor usually shows up as Ethernet adaptor (en); when i try to change the name to USB adaptor, it seems like it'll be unrecognized by my Mac. Using this adaptor in other Free wi-fi areas always seemed easy with unencrypted signals.
The Mac driver (by RaLink) lets you see the signal strength and all the other available signals in the area- It is compatible with 10.3-10.5 and maybe 10.6). It takes a bit of play making it all work if you have to set up profiles and passwords, but this has been a God-send in allowing my iBook go wifi. a cheaper solution than an Airport card, which aren't always easy to find for G3.
Works like a charm on old macs November 4, 2008 Laura Serrano (Costa Rica) I have an ancient G3 iBook, which refuses to retire. Setup wasn't complicated (I have Tiger OS) and haven't had any hang up trouble. Nice little gadget.
OK September 30, 2008 Patricia L. Barrett (prunedale) Have a g wireless sys and internal b in my ibook. No appreciable increase in internet loading with adapter and very inconvenient hanging off the side. These adapters stick out and could easily be damaged. at least this one has a u-joint that helps a lot in this respect but had some trouble staying in position set. Not much invested so it was worth a try.
